The convention was amazing. The drive to Memphis included a stop in Brentwood for dinner with friends... and then breakfast at the Loveless Cafe before hitting the Natchez Trace Parkway. Ended up a little late for the competition... sigh.
Keynote went well, though I always wonder how I'll be received. This time, folks did like it. YAY! The rest of the weekend was great - including hanging out with friends, going to dinner on Beale Street, presenting with Al on the court reporter-scopist relationship, and winning a bid for a bottle of wine from California.
We then headed up to the foothills of the Ozarks to spend two days with another friend from the reporting world... and then we turned homeward. We drove the entire northern tier of Tennessee, sans interstate. We ended up in Bristol, TN, last on Thursday evening and so instead had breakfast with our friend there. The last of the drive was across the mountains of eastern Tennessee into the mountains of western North Carolina and then our familiar area.
We're tired. But also rejuvenated.
Ready to tackle work - and it's a good thing too b/c our A/C unit is dying a painfully leaky death.
Go to convention, y'all. You will love the vibe there and it will energize you - recharge your batteries? - for when you get home. Worth every penny.
You all know I love giving back... and I've been speaking at the local law school for many years now, sharing with the students who will be future litigators how they can work WITH court reporters to create a truly excellent record.
I love doing this - and if you have the chance, please consider doing it in your area. The "baby" lawyers appreciated it and the next generation of court reporters will too!
We all love rituals - girls nights, massages, regular workouts... but what about our working rituals?
Do you have any that ease you into your productivity? Perhaps alleviate any anxiety?
Our job as a stenographer (or captioners) is filled with stressors and if we can develop rituals for ourselves to help limit those stresses, think how healthy, happy, and productive we can become?!
I love this profession... and I love sharing it. Wherever you are, in whatever period in your career you find yourself, be an amazing advocate! Introduce people to this incredible opportunity for someone who loves English, the law, computers, learning... Be the little pebble that creates the ripple in the pond!
